Puyallup Fair Foundation Announces Snohomish High Student Recipient of Americraft Scholarship
Puyallup, WA, May 28, 2009 - The first annual Puyallup Fair Foundation scholarship, “Americraft Partnership in Patriotism” has just been awarded to Justin Miller, currently a junior at Snohomish High School.
Justin has maintained a 4.0 grade point average at Snohomish High School, and is ranked first in his class of 442 students. He will invest his $1,250 scholarship in higher education, as he plans to pursue a degree in engineering and technologies at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT.
The scholarship is a writing competition that provides high school students pursuing a college education the opportunity to express their views on allegiance. Contestants wrote an 800-1,000 word essay based on an annual patriotic theme. The theme of the essay, “Made in America,” calls for the student to discuss why it is important for Americans to buy products Made in America.
Americraft, who sponsored the scholarship, has a strong belief that scholars should have the opportunity to express themselves as often as possible, and Americraft encourages students to enter this writing competition annually.
Americraft Cookware (www.americraftcookware.com), a privately held company based in Mount Dora, Florida, signed a $1 million package last year for five year naming rights to the ShowPlex exhibition center at the Puyallup Fair & Events Center. The 122,000 square foot facility, Americraft ShowPlex, is used most weekends throughout the year, and houses both private and public events.
Americraft has had a strong presence at the Puyallup Fair each September and the Spring Fair in Puyallup each April. They are the manufacturing and marketing company behind the Kitchen Craft by Americraft and Americraft cookware brands, and promoters of the Healthy Gourmet Cooking Shows. The Americraft manufacturing plant is located in West Bend, WI.
The Puyallup Fair Foundation was created in 2008, and works closely with youth in the region. Each year a selection of scholarships are offered to motivated students working toward direct career paths. Since the scholarship program’s inception in 1991, 212 students have received funds for continuing education totaling over $516,500. For further information visit www.thefair.com.
